The first time we went outside with both twins, it took ninety minutes of preparation for a fifteen-minute walk. By the time everyone was fed, changed, and ready, one twin needed changing again.
If you are a new twin parent staring at the front door with anxiety, this post is for you.
Accept the new timeline
A quick errand with twins is not a thing. Every outing takes preparation time. Our rule: whatever time you think you need, add thirty minutes.
Pack the bag the night before
The diaper bag lives by the door, restocked every night: diapers, wipes (double quantity), a change of clothes for each twin, feeding supplies, and one spare shirt for the adult. Restocking at night, when both babies are asleep, beats scrambling in the morning.
Plan around the schedule
We plan departures right after a feed, so the time until the next meltdown is as long as possible. We learned this the hard way, more than once.
People will stop and talk to you
Nothing attracts conversation like twins. You will hear the same questions thousands of times. Smile and keep moving.
Start small and build up
First outing: a walk around the block. Then a nearby park. Then a supermarket. Each trip builds confidence. Six months from now, you will be loading two kids like a pro.
